Metcalf & Co. Riso Print: The Ghost Sign Adventure Begins!
Hey, friends! I’m beyond excited to introduce you to the very first print in my year-long ghost sign series – the Metcalf & Co. riso print! This A3 beauty is inspired by Hucknall’s own historic ghost sign and marks the start of a 12-part journey through faded hand-painted ads from the past.
What’s a Ghost Sign, Anyway?
If you’re not already as obsessed with ghost signs as I am, let me fill you in. They’re those perfectly imperfect, weathered adverts painted on buildings back in the day – a little slice of history. They tell stories about the businesses and crafts that shaped our towns, like Hucknall’s Metcalf & Co. - a boot and shoe manufacturer. Sadly, the original sign is slowly fading into mystery, but that’s where I step in!
Bringing the Past Back to Life
For this print, I reimagined the Metcalf & Co. sign in bold, juicy colours – orange, yellow, and purple – to give it a fresh, modern twist while still nodding to its vintage charm. Think of it as history with a glow-up!
Limited Edition Goodness
Here’s the deal: there are only 20 prints available, so if you want to snag one, don’t wait around. Each Riso print is sustainably made, which means you get a gorgeous piece of art that’s as kind to the planet as it is to your wall.
The First of Many
This print is just the beginning! Over the next 12 months, I’ll be diving into more ghost signs, bringing them back to life with my signature hand-painted style. Each print will tell its own little story, so by the end of the year, you’ll have an amazing collection of local history – with a twist!
Join the Journey
I’d love for you to join me on this adventure. Whether you’re a history lover, typography geek, or just someone who appreciates a good pop of color, this series is for you. Let’s make some walls happy and keep these stories alive!
